For years Michelle was the business manager for Cindy Crawford (yes, the model) but how did that experience help her start her own jewelry and accessories line years later. “Well I feel I have always had a very esthetic eye in general”. My time with Cindy further supported my eye for fashion and design. By interacting with supporting and executing every entity of Cindy’s business affairs on a daily basis gave me access to the world’s most recognized fashion designers, runway shows, photographers, stylists, make- up artists as well as interfacing with all of Cindy’s corporate contracts continued to expose me to not only the creative side of Cindy inc. but also the business side of her life. I was fortunate to learn from one of the world’s most sought after and successful models/spokes-person. A very essential part of my experience during those years.
After years away from the business world, I decided it was time to create something unique and special. Having family in the jewelry business seemed a natural pull for me but I have also always highly admired my dear friend Stephanie Albertson Jewelry.
Thus, the new Journey began. Michelle began her creative process by sourcing beautiful semi – precious stones and unique elements that began to become the very beginning of Michelle May. Because of having family in the business, she was able to source components which were very unique and special to adorn her jewelry.
Michelle May was created and launched in 2017. It was important to me to find a way to differentiate in an already highly competitive Industry. The line is truly multi-functional and very versatile. Her line is designed for layering as well as wearing her pieces in different ways. For example, wristlets which may also serve as necklaces. Necklaces which can be worn as wristlets. Some designs which can be wrapped around your favorite Sun Hat for additional styling etc…
Michelle also dedicated her line to strong and courageous women who may have faced adversity or illness and confronted those experiences with dignity, grace and resolve. She was inspired by these extraordinary women and decided to name her jewelry after these incredible women in her life from whom she found strength and life lessons.
Also, Michelle’s beloved grandmothers maiden name was May so in honor of her the line would become known as Michelle May New York. It was also important to Michelle to have a give back component to her line and therefore chose 3 charities close to her heart. One Love Foundation, a group that educates young people how to avoid unhealthy or life-threatening relationship abuse. Also, Main Springs, a non-profit effort to rescue children and young girls off the streets of Tanzania and to provide a home utilizing a family care model approach in Africa through her dear friend Christopher Gates and lastly to support Glassy Baby’s One Light Fund which helps people, animals and the environment heal. Michelle donates annually out of her business to the 3 organizations she has chosen
